Harvard Square Homeless Shelter

Who We Are

HSHS was the first student-run homeless shelter in the United States. It opened its doors in 1983 as an emergency shelter, but as the need for shelters has not decreased in the Boston area, our shelter has remained open. We are a dry shelter, meaning that we do not allow anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol into our space.

What We Do

The Harvard Sq Homeless Shelter offers beds to 24 men and women each night from Nov 1st to April 15th. Our beds are a mix of 14-day stays and emergency 1-night stays. We offer our guests dinner, breakfast, and snacks as well as access to showers and laundry machines. They are also welcome to speak to our Resource Advocates who can connect them to government and non-profit organization resources and opportunities.
