Who We Are
What We Do
The office of Partnerships is looking for volunteers to help out with the 2025 Cradles to Crayons Ready for Learning Initiative which will provide 12,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to BPS scholars. Schools are coming to pick up their backpacks from the Brighton High Recycling Center (25 Warren St.) August 11-15 from 10am -1pm. Volunteers will be taking backpacks out of large boxes (roughly 5'x5'x5') and loading them into cars. There will be a moderate level of exercise as volunteers will need to be able to lift backpacks repetitively for the time they are volunteering, but can take a rest at any time. Volunteers will be spending most of the time they are volunteering on their feet. MBTA Accessibility: It is a 10 minute walk from the Warren Street stop on the Green Line B branch. It is a 2 minute walk from the Cambridge St @ Sparhawk St on the 57 bus. Why this matters Three of the top 10 reasons that children miss school are related to Clothing Insecurity and a lack of school supplies. The number of chronically absent students—those who have missed at least 10% of the school year— grew by 91% between 2018 and 2022 across Massachusetts. For each year that a student is chronically absent, their odds of dropping out nearly double.
