Corporate Volunteer Leaders (CVLs) provide onsite direction at corporate community service projects ranging from a dozen to more than 100 volunteers. CVLs assist a member of Boston Cares staff during corporate volunteer events and, on occasion, are the sole leaders of the volunteer events. In both cases, CVLs are fully informed and prepared to support volunteers and ensure a high-quality, high-impact, effective day of service. Volunteer Leaders help to ensure that volunteers are productive and have a positive experience, while ensuring that the needs of the agency are being met.
This Position reports to and is supervised by the Boston Cares Corporate Program, and will work in close cooperation with executive staff members. These positions are seasonal from April-November, with hours varying per week, dependent upon dates that service projects are scheduled.
Onsite Project responsibilities include:
- Greeting Volunteers
- Outlining the day’s activities and tasks
- Directing teams to their respective tasks and providing instruction on tasks
- Managing corporate volunteer groups onsite throughout the service project
- Ensuring that the project is organized and that the corporate group feels well utilized
- Floating throughout the day - to monitor progress, provide tools and supplies as needed, take pictures, and answer questions
- Ensuring volunteers have the supplies and instruction needed to complete tasks
- Addressing project issues as they arise – from supply shortages to rain to volunteer injuries
- Assisting with project documentation, including volunteer sign in, volunteer evaluations, project impact and photography
- Reporting back to Boston Cares on the successes and challenges of the project
Qualification & Requirements
- Must be available to lead weekday projects
- Able to communicate effectively and possess good interpersonal skills and leadership qualities
- Comfortable speaking in front of groups
- General knowledge and/or experience with tools, painting, yardwork and carpentry, or willingness to learn
- Physically fit, able to lift and move supplies and equipment
- Access to personal transportation
- Bring a fun, positive attitude with ingenuity and a can-do attitude
- All new Volunteer Leaders must attend a 1 hour orientation.
