Description

As a mentor in College Bound, BC students have the opportunity to work with high school and middle school students (grades 7-12) from Boston Public Schools.  These students are brought to campus every other Saturday and take STEM classes in the morning, and College and Career Readiness and Social Justice classes in the afternoon.  BC mentors pick the students up from their STEM classes, take them to lunch in Mac, and then go with them to their College and Career and Social Justice classes.  In those classes they act as TA's to the Lynch School of Education graduate students who teach the students.  There is also mentor/mentee time in between the two afternoon classes during which you will work with the grade whose College and Career class to act as a TA in.  During that time you will do activities with your mentees to get to know them, and we will also bring in different student groups to perform for the students.  Last year, for example, we had Sexual Chocolate, FISTS, and Common Tones perform for the students during mentor/mentee time.  BC mentors will also be assigned a small group of mentees of about 5 or 6 students who they will stay in closer contact with between session and who they will eat lunch with and develop a close relationship with.
